Who your reply goes to
When you reply, Rookery sends it to everyone on the latest email, the way Reply all does in other mail apps. The person who wrote it goes in To, and everyone else on it goes in Cc, once each.
Some addresses are never added on their own:
- your own addresses: every inbox and alias here;
- mailing lists, and machine addresses like no-reply and bounce addresses.
When it starts with one person
Some replies start with only the person who wrote, and the composer says why:
- A big thread: "Only Dana: this thread has 14 people".
- A mailing list, or an automatic email.
- Money or a sign-in: "Only Dana: it's about a payment".
- An Ask, an upload link or a booking link: those are for the person you're asking.
- Send securely: a secure message goes to one person, so it has no Cc.
- The inbox is set to "Reply to the sender" (see below).
Choose Add everyone to copy the others in anyway. The composer keeps the reason in view ("Everyone, though it's about a payment"), with Only Dana to go back.
See and change who gets it
The line at the top of the composer says who it goes to: "To Dana + 2 others". Open it to choose Everyone, Only Dana, or tick people one by one. Type in Cc to add someone new. The send button says who gets it: Send to Dana + 2.
Press r to reply as usual, or ⇧R to reply to everyone, whatever the reason to start with one person.
Taking someone off replies
If you take someone off a reply, later replies in that conversation leave them off too, and the thread says so: "Maya took Tom off replies". Pick them again and they're back on. When someone new joins the thread, a quiet line says so ("Dana added Sam to the thread"), and they're included from then on.
Quill's drafts go to the same people. The draft's card shows who ("To Dana · Cc Sam, Lee"), and Quill can say in its note that someone should be added or left off, but it never changes the list itself.
For one inbox
In Settings → Inboxes, each inbox has Replies go to: Reply to everyone (the default) or Reply to the sender. Whoever manages New senders for the inbox can change it. Either way, you can still change who gets any one reply.
