Pictures wait for you

Senders don't get to know when you read.

Lots of emails hide a tiny picture that tells the sender when you opened them. Rookery removes those every time and tells you how many it found. Other pictures wait until you ask to see them.

In every plan, from $8 a month. 14-day free trial, no card needed.

Opening an email

BeforeA hidden picture tells the sender when you opened it, how often and roughly where.

With RookeryTracking pixels are removed before you see the email, every time.

Pictures

BeforeThey load the moment you open the email, and the sender's server sees it.

With RookeryThey wait as placeholders until you choose Show them.

Knowing

BeforeYou never find out who's watching.

With RookeryA quiet line tells you how many trackers Rookery blocked.

Your own email

BeforeSome tools add open tracking to what you send.

With RookeryWe never add trackers to the mail you send.

How it works

Three steps.

  1. Trackers come out.As each email arrives, Rookery finds tracking pixels and removes them.
  2. Pictures wait.Every other picture from the sender's servers stays hidden, shown as Picture hidden.
  3. You choose.Tap Show them on an email when you want to see its pictures.

Scout: I removed 2 trackers from this one. The other pictures are still hidden.

What counts as a tracker

A picture is treated as a tracker, and removed, when any of these is true:

  • It's tiny: 2 pixels or smaller in both directions.
  • It's hidden on purpose, with styles that make it invisible.
  • It comes from an address known for open tracking, used by common mailing-list and sales-email tools.
  • Links in email open with no referrer, so the site you visit isn't told where you came from.
What it doesn't do yet

The honest bit

  • Showing pictures still tells the sender's server. When you tap Show them, the pictures load from the sender, so they can tell the email was opened. Fetching pictures for you, so the sender learns nothing, is coming. Coming soon
  • We count trackers, we don't name them yet. You'll see how many, not which company. Coming soon
  • Links aren't cleaned yet. Tracking codes in links stay as the sender wrote them. Coming soon
  • No “always show pictures from this sender” yet. You choose each time. Coming soon

Questions

Will emails look broken?

Text and layout show as normal. Pictures show as placeholders until you tap Show them.

Do you track the email I send?

No. Rookery never adds tracking pixels or open tracking to your mail.

Can I always show pictures from someone?

Not yet. For now you choose on each email.

Does it stop all tracking?

It removes tracking pixels every time and holds back other pictures. Tracking codes in links aren't removed yet, and showing pictures loads them from the sender.
