You can get around Rookery without the mouse. The most useful key is ⌘K. It opens a box where you can jump to any place, or search your mail.

Use ⌘K

  1. Press ⌘K on a Mac, or Ctrl+K on Windows. You can also click Jump anywhere in the sidebar, or tap the search icon on your phone.
  2. Start typing. The list narrows to places that match, like Today, Bills, an inbox or a tag.
  3. Use the arrow keys to pick one, and press Enter to go there.
  4. To search your mail instead, pick Search mail for with your words at the end of the list.
  5. Press Esc to close the box.

All the shortcuts

  • ⌘K or Ctrl+K: search, or jump anywhere
  • c: write a new email
  • /: put your cursor in the search box
  • ?: show the shortcuts
  • Esc: close a dialog or sheet
  • ⌘Enter or Ctrl+Enter: send the email or reply you're writing, or add the note you're typing

Good to know

  • Single-key shortcuts like c and / don't fire while you're typing in a box, so you won't start an email by accident.
  • ⌘K works even while you're typing.
  • Mail search looks at the subject, the sender and the message. It matches the start of each word, so "inv" finds "invoice".
  • If a place matches what you typed, Enter opens that place. Use the arrow keys to reach Search mail for at the bottom.
  • In ⌘K, Needs your yes shows how many drafts are waiting for you.
