Send something as a secure link

Some things shouldn't sit in someone's inbox forever, like account details or a private note. Send them as a secure link instead. The email only carries a link, and the message itself stays with you.

Send a secure reply

  1. Open the conversation and write your reply.
  2. Tick Send securely.
  3. Choose how long the Link works for: 1 day, 7 days or 30 days. The default is 7 days.
  4. Click Send securely. You still get the usual 20-second undo.

What they see

  1. An email that says you sent them a secure message, with a link.
  2. When they open the link, they click Email me a code.
  3. A 6-digit code arrives at their email address.
  4. They enter the code and click Open message.
  5. They can read your message, and send you a reply from the same page with Reply securely. Their reply lands in your conversation.

Withdraw it

  1. Find the message in the conversation. It says Sent as a secure link.
  2. Click Withdraw. The link stops working right away.

Good to know

  • The message shows whether it was opened, like "Opened 2 times" or "Not opened yet".
  • Each code works once, for 10 minutes. After 5 wrong tries, they need a new code.
  • Codes go only to the address you sent the message to. That's what keeps it private if the email is forwarded.
  • After entering a code, they can read for 30 minutes before they need a new one.
  • A secure message goes to one person, so you can't use Cc.
  • When the link expires or you withdraw it, the page tells them to ask you to send it again.
  • Secure links work for replies. You can't send one from a new email yet, and you can't attach files yet.
