# Screen first-time senders

Turn on the Screener and people writing to you for the first time wait outside your inbox. Allow them in with one click, or block them for good.

Staying safe with Scout · Updated October 11, 2026 · https://userookery.com/help/screener/

Strangers, cold pitches and lists you never joined can crowd out the people you care about. The **Screener** keeps first-time senders out of your inbox until you decide.

## Turn it on

1. Go to **Settings → Just me**. Only owners and admins can change this.
2. Under **Just-me mode**, tick **Screen first-time senders**.
3. Save. **Screener** now shows in your sidebar.

## Screen someone

1. Open **Screener**. New people wait on the **Waiting** tab.
2. Click **Allow** to let them in. Their mail moves to your inbox, and Scout reads it.
3. Click **Block** to keep them out. Their conversations close, and anything they send later arrives closed.

You can also decide from inside a conversation. A banner says the person hasn't written before, with **Allow** and **Block** buttons.

## Change your mind

1. Open **Screener** and go to the **Blocked** tab.
2. Click **Allow** next to the person.

## Good to know

- Only people who have never written to you before are screened. People you already know go straight to your inbox.
- Anyone you reply to, or write a new email to, is let in automatically.
- Mail from waiting or blocked senders is kept, not deleted. Search still finds it.
- The helpers leave waiting and blocked senders alone, so Quill won't draft replies to them.
- On Today, a **New senders** card tells you when people are waiting.
- The Screener is off until you turn it on. It's made for your own mail, not a shared team inbox.
