# Keep your own inbox private

Make your own address, like you@company.com, a private inbox. Only you see its mail, while support@ and sales@ stay shared with the team.

Your own mail · Updated October 11, 2026 · https://userookery.com/help/private-inbox/

In Rookery, inboxes like `support@` and `sales@` are shared: everyone on the team sees them. Your own address can be different. Make it a **private inbox** and only you see what's in it.

## What private means

- Only you see the inbox's conversations, emails, notes, files and bills. Not teammates, not admins, not the workspace owner.
- It doesn't show up in anyone else's search, counts, **Today**, **Needs your yes**, **People** pages or **Documents**.
- The workspace owner and admins can see that the inbox exists, and whose it is, in **Settings → Inboxes**. They never see its mail.
- Your private inboxes sit at the top of the side bar under **Your inbox**, with a lock. Team inboxes follow.

## Make your inbox private

1. Go to **Settings → Inboxes**.
2. Find the inbox at your own address and click **Make it my private inbox…**.
3. Rookery tells you who will lose access. Click **Make it private**.

The workspace owner can make any inbox private for someone, for example when setting up a new teammate.

## Share it with the team again

Only you can do this. In **Settings → Inboxes**, click **Share with the team…** on your private inbox. Everyone will see all of its mail, including what's already there, so Rookery asks you to confirm first.

## The helpers still help

Scout, Quill and Fetch work on your private mail too, for you only. Quill's drafts show up in your **Needs your yes**, nobody else's. A private conversation can be assigned to you or to a helper, never to a teammate.

## API keys

A key sees what the person who made it sees. A key you made can read your private inbox; keys made by teammates can't.

## When someone leaves

Their private inboxes stay private, and nobody can see them. The workspace owner can give each one to someone in **Settings → Inboxes**. They never turn into team inboxes on their own.
