# Give each service its own address

Make a private email alias for each shop or service. If one starts getting spam, you'll know who leaked it, and you can block it.

Your own mail · Updated October 11, 2026 · https://userookery.com/help/aliases/

Give every shop, app and newsletter its own address, like `shopify.k3m9@yourdomain.com`. Mail to it lands in your inbox as normal. If spam ever starts arriving at one, you'll know who leaked it, and you can shut that address off.

## Make an alias

1. Go to **Settings → Just me**. Only owners and admins can manage aliases.
2. In **Aliases**, type who it's **For**, like "Shopify".
3. Pick the domain it's **On**, and the inbox it **Delivers to**.
4. Click **New alias**. Rookery shows the new address.
5. Copy it and use it when you sign up for that service.

## See who's writing

Each alias shows how many emails came in, when the last one arrived, and which domains sent them. If a new domain starts writing to an alias, the conversation says so, and that it may have leaked.

## Block an alias

1. Find the alias in **Settings → Just me**.
2. Click **Block**. Mail to it is turned away from now on.
3. To turn it back on, click **Unblock**.

## Good to know

- Aliases need your own domain, set up so that any address on it can receive mail (a catch-all). An owner sets that up in **Settings → Domain**.
- The four random characters at the end make an alias hard to guess.
- A conversation that came in through an alias shows "via" and the alias address.
- You can make as many aliases as you like.
- Aliases can't be renamed or deleted, only blocked.
- Mail sent to a new address on your catch-all domain can become an alias by itself. Choose the inbox it goes to under **Just-me mode**.
